First Impressions

The trucks pull to a stop in front of a small shop in the Refugee Camp. We jump out and stretch. As we start to grab our bags, we notice tons of students walking towards us on the road. We take a few steps, bags in hand, but then they reach out and offer to take them from us.

Our first few minutes at the camp and we were met with such warmth and welcome from everyone. I think we were all a little shocked to see how many students came down to help carry our bags up the hill for us. The kindness extended to us on that day was repeated over and over during our entire stay at the Mae La Oon Refugee Camp.
